Missional communities

A missional community is a small family of believers who follow Jesus together and live on mission where they already are. They meet in homes, barracks, and neighborhoods across Fort Hood.

Agape Equip

Cover of Agape Equip: Missional Community Training

Agape Equip is the training behind every missional community at Agape Hood, and it is one of the pillars of our church.

The guide shows how the gospel shapes who we are and how we live as a family of missionary servants. Leaders work through it in Equip: MC Leader Training on the first Sunday of each month. Anyone who wants to understand how our communities work is welcome to read it.

What is inside

  • What shapes the church: defining the church by what God has done, not by what we do.
  • The gospel: the power of God for salvation and the story of creation, fall, redemption, and restoration.
  • Gospel identity: who God has made the church to be.
  • Everyday gospel rhythms: story-formed, listen, celebrate, bless, eat, and recreate.
  • Building and leading a missional community: leadership posture and living with gospel intentionality.
  • Appendices: a community covenant template, a covenant example, and a leader readiness indicator.

Why we gather in communities

Sunday gathers the whole church. Missional communities send it out.

In Acts, the early church met in the temple courts and from house to house. We follow that rhythm. On Sunday we worship together at Main Post Chapel. During the week we meet in smaller groups that live out the gospel in the places God has put us.

Our communities are built to go where people live. Some meet in family housing, and some meet in or near the barracks so single soldiers have a church family close by.

We are building

We are continually aiming to build missional communities that can reproduce here and all over the military.

Building a community on mission can be challenging. Here are seven things to consider.

  1. Start with shared leadership
  2. Build a foundation on the gospel
  3. Live with gospel intentionality
  4. Have a clearly defined mission
  5. Adjust the life of the community around the mission
  6. Stay connected to your overseer and coach
  7. Plan for multiplication

Lead or host

Every missional community starts with someone willing to open their door.

Agape Equip trains leaders and hosts so they can shepherd a group with confidence. We also need volunteers to serve the kids in our communities. If you want to lead, host, or serve, let us know.
